Planned Lane Closures on US-31 (Elton B. Stephens Expressway), for Roadway Lighting Repairs, in Birmingham
BIRMINGHAM – Weather permitting, the Alabama Department of Transportation announces lane closures, beginning on Friday, December 1st from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., for Roadway Lighting repairs as follows:
- Beginning at 9 a.m. Friday, the US 31 (Elton B. Stephens Expressway)
southbound outside (right) lane will be closed intermittently from just south of the I-59 Interchange (Exit 126-A) to the US-280 Flyover Bridge, to allow adequate space for equipment and personnel to complete Lighting Maintenance work safely.
- After the Lighting Maintenance is completed in the southbound direction, the work will resume in the northbound direction on the US 31 (Elton B. Stephens Expressway), requiring the northbound outside (right) lane to be closed intermittently from the US-280 Flyover Bridge to just south of the I-59 Interchange (Exit 126-A).
The Lighting Maintenance will require intermittent lane closures in the area of the work for up to three additional weeks, depending on weather conditions and work progress. This operation will be daily from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., all lanes should be open and flowing freely by 3 p.m.
Please adjust arrival/departure times, observe work zone speed limits and other work zone signs, and use extreme caution in these areas. ALDOT thanks motorists for their patience during this Maintenance Operation to improve Alabama’s roadways.
