Planned Ramp Closure onto I-59/20 NB, in Birmingham

As Construction Continues the CBD Project

 

BIRMINGHAM – Weather permitting, the Alabama Department of Transportation will continue a project to improve the I-59/20 and I-65 Interchange as follows:

 

  • Beginning, Monday, May 21st the 31st Street Ramp onto I-59/20 Northbound will close at approximately 12:01 a.m. This ramp will remain closed for approximately 2 months to complete construction activities for the new ramp as a part of the I-59/20 Central Business Project (CBD).

 

DETOUR:  From 31st Street take Richard Arrington Jr. Blvd. North, to 40th Street towards Tallapoosa to access the on Ramp to I-59/20 Northbound.

 

Message boards will be up along the path for the detour.

 

The closures will require the use of Law Enforcement Officers.

 

A reduced speed limit of 45 mph is in effect throughout the work zone. Motorists are requested to consider using alternate routes, adjust arrival/departure times, observe work zone speed limits and other work zone signs, and use extreme caution in this area. ALDOT thanks motorists for their patience during this construction operation to improve Alabama’s roadways.
