Repairs of Impact Attenuators (Crash Cushions) on I-65 and I-59, in Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM – On Saturday, June 17, weather permitting, between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., ALDOT will make repairs to Impact Attenuators (Crash Cushions) on I-65 and I-59 in Birmingham, as follows:

7:00 a.m. thru 9:00 a.m.:
· Repairs will be made to the Impact Attenuator in the northbound direction of I-65 at the 3rd Ave. North Interchange (Exit 260-B). This work will not require any lane closures.

9:00 a.m. thru 12:00 p.m.:
· Repairs will be made to the Impact Attenuator in the northbound direction of I-59 at the 22nd Street Interchange (Exit 125-B). This work will require the outside (right) lane and shoulder to be closed in from just north of the 17th Street exit to just north of the gore area at the exit to 22nd Street. The exit ramp will remain open, but narrowed to provide sufficient space for equipment and personnel in the work area.

12:00 p.m. thru 2:00 p.m.:
· Repairs will be made to the Impact Attenuator in the northbound direction of I-59 at the AL 3/US 31 Interchange (Exit 126-A). This work will not require any lane closures.

2:00 p.m. thru 4:00 p.m.:
· Repairs will be made to the Impact Attenuator in the southbound direction of I-59 at the 22nd Street Interchange (Exit 125). This work will require the exit ramp to be narrowed to provide sufficient space for equipment and personnel in the work area.

4:00 p.m. thru 7:00 p.m.:
· Repairs will be made to the Impact Attenuator in the southbound direction of I-59 at the Carraway Blvd. Interchange (Exit 126-A). This work will require the exit ramp to be narrowed to provide sufficient space for equipment and personnel in the work area.

Motorists are requested to consider using alternate routes, adjust arrival/departure times, observe work zone speed limits and other work zone signs, and use extreme caution in this area. ALDOT thanks motorists for their patience during this Maintenance Operation to improve Alabama’s roadways.
