Work Continues on Phase II of I-59/20 Bridge Project (Update)

Central Business District (CBD) Interchange and Bridge Replacement Project

 

BIRMINGHAM – Weather permitting, the Alabama Department of Transportation will continue a project for new bridge foundation work to improve the I-59/20 and I-65 Interchange as follows:

 

  • A rolling road block at 15 minute intervals will take place at the off-ramp from I-65 southbound to 6th Ave N for beam erection activities.

–          Beginning Thursday, January 5 at 11 p.m. thru Saturday, January 14 at 5 a.m. each night.

 

  • A right shoulder closure will take place on I-59/20 northbound between Arkadelphia Road and Center Street for beam erection activities.

–          Beginning Thursday, January 5 at 11 p.m. thru Saturday, January 14 at 5 a.m. each night.

 

  • A single right lane closure will take place on I-65 southbound between the 16th Street North. Exit ramp and the I-59/20 Interchange for bridge demolition activities (12th Court North Bridge).

–          Beginning Saturday, January 7) at 12 a.m. and ending Saturday, January 7 at 11:59    p.m.

 

  • A rolling road block at 15 minute intervals will take place at the on-ramp from I-59/20 southbound to I-65 northbound for bridge demolition activities (12th Court. North Bridge).

–          Beginning Wednesday, January 11 at 11 p.m. thru Sunday, January 15 at 5 a.m. each night. A single left lane closure will take place on I-65 southbound between the16th Street North exit ramp and the I-59/20 Interchange for bridge demolition activities (12th Court North Bridge).

 

All temporary traffic control signage and warnings will be in place.

 

This work is a part of Phase II of the I-59/20 Central Business District (CBD) Interchange and Bridge Replacement Project.

 

Motorists are requested to consider using alternate routes, adjust arrival/departure times, observe work zone speed limits and other work zone signs, and use extreme caution in this area. ALDOT thanks motorists for their patience during this Construction Operation to improve Alabama’s roadways.
