BIRMINGHAM–As construction continues in downtown Birmingham for Interstate Improvements, the Alabama Department of Transportation says drivers should expect delays.

The following closures will take place weather permitting as follows:

  • 24th Street North between Rev. Abraham Woods and Richard Arrington Jr. Blvd. will be closed Wednesday, October 9th at 11 p.m.until Thursday, October 10th at 8 p.m. in order to set bridge girders.

Detour signs will be in place where necessary. Please keep in mind that all construction plans can change due to weather and other factors. […]

I-59/20 Bridge Project Update

The current Phase III closure of I-59/20 is approximately a one-mile stretch which includes the elevated section of I-59/20 through Birmingham’s Central Business District (CBD). During construction, closures beneath the CBD bridges will change as work progresses; however, the contractor has a responsibility to maintain at least one northbound and one southbound lane open at all times between 15th Street N and 18th Street N, between 19th Street N and 23rd Street N, and between 24th Street N and 26th Street N (Carraway Blvd). BIRMINGHAM– As construction continues in downtown Birmingham for Interstate Improvements, the Alabama Department of Transportation says drivers should expect delays.

The following closures will take place weather permitting as follows:

  • Carraway Blvd. southbound at the on ramp to I-59/20 northbound will be closed Monday, September 23rdat 11 p.m. thru Thursday, September 26that 5 a.m. to install electrical equipment.
