I-59/20 Bridge Project Update
(CBD) Central Business District Project

BIRMINGHAM– As construction continues in downtown Birmingham for Interstate Improvements, the Alabama Department of Transportation says drivers should expect delays.

Weather permitting, the following closures will take place:

• I-59/20 SB off-ramp to 31^st Street N will be closed Thursday, November 19^th through Monday, November 23rd from 12 a.m. until 11:59 p.m. for flume construction.
• I-59/20 SB & Carraway Blvd. exit ramp  (right lane) will be closed Thursday, November 19^th through Thursday, November 26t^h from 12 a.m. until 11:59 p.m. for OHSB.
• I-59/20 SB & Carraway Blvd. exit ramp  (left shoulder) will be closed Thursday, November 19^th through Thursday, November 26t^h from 12 a.m. until 11:59 p.m. for OHSB.
• I-59/20 NB between Red Mountain Expressway NB to 31^st Street on-ramp will be closed Thursday, November 19^th through Thursday, November 26^th from 12 a.m. until 11:59 p.m. for OHSB.
• 19^th Street N from Rev. Abraham Woods Jr. Blvd. to 10^th Avenue N will be closed Thursday, November 19^th through Thursday, November 19^th from 12 a.m. until 11: 59 p.m. for  BL Harbert.
• 24^th Street N between Rev. Abraham Woods and Richard Arrington Jr. Blvd. will be closed Thursday, November 19^th through Tuesday, November 17^th from 12 a.m. until 11:59 p.m. for the City of Birmingham striping.
• Richard Arrington Jr. Blvd. between Carraway Blvd. and 28^th Street will be closed Thursday, November 19^th  through Thursday, November 23^rd  from 12 a.m. until 11:59 p.m. for paving/striping.
• Richard Arrington Jr. Blvd. between 25^th Street and Carraway Blvd. will be closed Thursday, November 19^th through Thursday, November 23^rd  from 12 a.m. until 11:59 p.m. for paving/striping.
• Richard Arrington Jr. Blvd. NB and SB between rev. Abraham Woods and 22^nd Street N will be closed Thursday, November 19^th through Thursday, November 26^th from 12 am. until 11:50 p.m. for RAJ signal installation.

Detour signs will be in place where necessary. Please keep in mind that all construction plans can change due to weather and other factors. As always, use caution and obey the posted speed limits.

This work is a part of the I-59/20 Central Business District (CBD) Interchange and Bridge Replacement Project.

Motorists are requested to consider using alternate routes, adjust arrival/departure times, observe work zone speed limits and other work zone signs, and use extreme caution in this area. ALDOT thanks motorists for their patience during this Construction Operation to improve Alabama’s roadways.
