I-59/20 Bridge Project Update
PHASE III CLOSURE ANNOUNCEMENT, IN BIRMINGHAM
(CBD) Central Business District Project

BIRMINGHAM–As construction continues in downtown Birmingham for Interstate Improvements, the Alabama Department of Transportation says drivers should expect delays.

The following closures will take during the removal of the existing structures:

  • 15th Street N between Reverend Abraham Woods Jr. Blvd. and 12th Ave. will close Monday, February 11th through Saturday, February 23rd for CBD bridge demo.
  • 24th Street N between Reverend Abraham Woods Jr. Blvd. and Richard Arrington Jr. Blvd. will close Tuesday, February 12th through Friday, February 15th for CBD bridge demo.
  • I-59/20 SB exit to Carraway Blvd. & RME will close each night, Monday, February 11th through Friday, February 15th, 11 p.m. until 5 a.m. for girder erection.
  • Red Mountain Expressway NB ramp onto 59/20 NB will close Wednesday, February 13th, Thursday, February 14th, and possibly Friday, February 15th, 11 p.m. until 5 a.m. for girder erection.

Detour signs will be in place where necessary. Please keep in mind that all construction plans can change due to weather and other factors. As always, use caution and obey the posted speed limits.

This work is a part of the I-59/20 Central Business District (CBD) Interchange and Bridge Replacement Project.

Motorists are requested to consider using alternate routes, adjust arrival/departure times, observe work zone speed limits and other work zone signs, and use extreme caution in this area. ALDOT thanks motorists for their patience during this Construction Operation to improve Alabama’s roadways.
