BIRMINGHAM– As construction continues in downtown Birmingham for Interstate Improvements, the Alabama Department of Transportation says drivers should expect delays.

Weather permitting, the following closures will take place as follows:

  • Monday, May 3rd at 9 p.m., the three (3) inside lanes of the I-59/20  southbound bridge beginning at the Red Mountain Expressway Interchange to the south end of the bridge will be closed for survey work.  The two right lanes will remain open.
  • All work should be complete by midnight.

Detour signs will be in place where necessary. Please keep in mind that all construction plans can change due to weather and other factors. As always, use caution and obey the posted speed limits.
