The current Phase III closure of I-59/20 is approximately a one-mile stretch which includes the elevated section of I-59/20 through Birmingham’s Central Business District (CBD). During construction, closures beneath the CBD bridges will change as work progresses; however, the contractor has a responsibility to maintain at least one northbound and one southbound lane open at all times between 15th Street N and 18th Street N, between 19th Street N and 23rd Street N, and between 24th Street N and 26th Street N (Carraway Blvd). These streets are listed here with their current planned state of availability.

Please keep in mind that all construction plans can change due to weather and other factors. As always, use caution and obey the posted speed limits. Detour signs will be in place where necessary. Motorists are encouraged to use I-459 to go around the closure when possible.
