I-59/20 Bridge Project Update
(CBD) Central Business District Project

BIRMINGHAM– As construction continues in downtown Birmingham for Interstate Improvements, the Alabama Department of Transportation says drivers should expect delays.

The following closures will take place weather permitting as follows:

• 22^nd Street North between Rev. Abraham Woods and 9^th Avenue North will be closed Thursday, October 3^rd through Wednesday, October 9^th from 12 a.m. until 11 p.m. to install CBD Heading.
• 19^th Street North between Rev. Abraham Woods and 9^th Avenue North will be closed Thursday, October 3^rd through Thursday, October 10^th from 12 a.m. until 11 p.m. to install CBD Heading.
• Richard Arrington Jr. Blvd. between Carraway and 28^th Street will be closed Thursday, October 3^rd through Thursday, October 10^th from 12 a.m. until 11 p.m. to install CBD Heading.
• Richard Arrington Jr. Blvd. between 25^th Street and Carraway Blvd. will be closed Thursday, October 3^rd from 12 a.m. until 11 p.m. to install CBD Heading.
• 9^th Avenue North between 16^th and 18^th Street will be closed Thursday, October 3^rd through Thursday, October 10^thfrom 12 a.m. until 11 p.m. to install CBD Heading.
• 9^th Avenue North and 18^th Street and 19^th Street will be closed Thursday, October 3^rd through October 10^th from 12 a.m. until 11 p.m. to install CBD Heading.
• 9^th Avenue North between 19^th Street North to Richard Arrington Jr. Blvd. will be closed Thursday, October 3^rd through Thursday, October 10^th from 12 a.m. until 11 p.m. to install CBD Heading
• 15^th Street North between Rev. Abraham Woods and 12^th Avenue will be closed Friday, October 4^th from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. for Milling Operation.
• 16^th Street North between Rev. Abraham Woods and 9^th Avenue North will be closed Thursday, October 3^rd and Friday October 4^th from 12 a.m. until 11 p.m. for Paving Operation.

Detour signs will be in place where necessary. Please keep in mind that all construction plans can change due to weather and other factors. As always, use caution and obey the posted speed limits.

This work is a part of the I-59/20 Central Business District (CBD) Interchange and Bridge Replacement Project.

Motorists are requested to consider using alternate routes, adjust arrival/departure times, observe work zone speed limits and other work zone signs, and use extreme caution in this area. ALDOT thanks motorists for their patience during this Construction Operation to improve Alabama’s roadways.
