Final Segment Installation for I-59/20 Bridge Project, in Birmingham
(CBD) Central Business District Project

BIRMINGHAM– As construction continues in downtown Birmingham for Interstate Improvements, the Alabama Department of Transportation announces the following:

Weather permitting, Tuesday, October 15th at 2 p.m. the contractor plans on installing the last pre-cast segments for the mainline of the CBD Bridge.

The contractor plans to transport the final segment to the location prior to lifting it into place. The location of the installation is in the general area of Carraway Blvd. and Richard Arrington Jr. Blvd.

BIRMINGHAM–As construction continues in downtown Birmingham for Interstate Improvements, the Alabama Department of Transportation says drivers should expect delays.

The following closures will take place weather permitting as follows:

  • 19th Street North between Rev. Abraham Woods and 9th Avenue North Woods and 9th Avenue will be closed Thursday, October 10th thru Thursday, October 17th from 12 a.m. until 11 p.m. to install CBD Heading.

The following closures will take place weather permitting as follows:

  • 24th Street North between Rev. Abraham Woods and Richard Arrington Jr. Blvd. will be closed Wednesday, October 9th at 11 p.m.until Thursday, October 10th at 8 p.m. in order to set bridge girders.
