PLANNED RAMP CLOSURE ON THE I-59/20 SB OFF RAMP (EXIT 126-B), IN BIRMINGHAM

As Construction Continues the CBD Project

BIRMINGHAM – Weather permitting, the Alabama Department of Transportation will continue a project to improve the I-59/20 and I-65 Interchange as follows:

  • Monday, August 20th for approximately one week or more the I-59/20 Southbound off-ramp (Exit 126-B) to 31st Street will be closed to install Drainage under the roadway.
  • The Contractor will also be switching the traffic into its final configuration and placing asphalt on the ramp and will finish the retaining wall.

A reduced speed limit of 45 mph is in effect throughout the work zone. Motorists are requested to consider using alternate routes, adjust arrival/departure times, observe work zone speed limits and other work zone signs, and use extreme caution in this area. ALDOT thanks motorists for their patience during this construction operation to improve Alabama’s roadways.

DETOUR

Traffic will be detoured to I-59/20 Westbound then left onto Tallapoosa Street and right onto Richard Arrington, Jr. Blvd, to 31st Street.
Message boards will be up along the path for the detour.

The closures will require the use of Law Enforcement Officers.
