(CBD) Central Business District Project

BIRMINGHAM– As construction continues in downtown Birmingham for Interstate Improvements, the Alabama Department of Transportation says drivers should expect delays.

The following closures will take place weather permitting as follows:

  • Carraway Blvd. will be closed between 11th Avenue and 26th Street N, Tuesday, May 21st thru Friday, May 24th from 11 p.m. until 5 a.m. to set segments across the roadway.
  • 28th Street closure between Richard Arrington Jr. Blvd and 11th Avenue, Monday, May 20th until Wednesday, May 22nd to repair the bridge deck overhead.

BIRMINGHAM– As construction continues in downtown Birmingham for Interstate Improvements, the Alabama Department of Transportation says drivers should expect delays.

The following closures will take place weather permitting as follows:

  • 28th Street closure between RAJ and 11th Avenue, Monday, May 20th until Wednesday, May 22nd to repair the bridge deck overhead.

Detour signs will be in place where necessary. Please keep in mind that all construction plans can change due to weather and other factors. As always, use caution and obey the posted speed limits.

This year’s National Work Zone Awareness Week (NWZAW), observed April 26-30, is themed “Drive Safe. Work Safe. Save Lives.” NWZAW is an annual campaign held at the start of construction season that encourages safe driving through highway work zones. Since 2000, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and its partners have sponsored National Work Zone Awareness Week, an annual spring campaign held at the start of construction season to encourage safe driving through highway work zones.

Work zones play a key role in maintaining and upgrading our roadways. Unfortunately, daily changes in traffic patterns, narrowed rights-of-way, and other construction activities often create a combination of factors resulting in crashes, injuries, and fatalities.
