ALDOT Announces Planned Lane Closures on I-59 SB for World Games, in Jefferson County

Jefferson County – The Alabama Department of Transportation announces the following lane closures at 7 p.m., on July 8th, 9th and 13th for the World Games:

• The outside (right) lane of I-59 South will be closed starting at the 31st Street Exit and ending just south of the off ramp to Red Mountain Expressway.
• The on ramp from 31st Street to I-59 South will also be closed during these times.

Jefferson County – To assist the City of Birmingham with traffic management during the World Games, the Alabama Department of Transportation announces the following lane closure(s):

•  The 17^th Street Ramp to downtown
  • Beginning today at 3 p.m., the left turn lane onto Reverend Abraham Woods Jr. Blvd. will be closed.
  • This closure will last for the duration of the World Games, reopening on July 19^th, 2022

(CBD) Central Business District Project

BIRMINGHAM– As construction continues in downtown Birmingham for Interstate Improvements, the Alabama Department of Transportation says drivers should expect delays.

Weather permitting, the following closures will take place as follows:

• Monday, May 3^rd at 9 p.m., the three (3) inside lanes of the I-59/20  southbound bridge beginning at the Red Mountain Expressway Interchange to the south end of the bridge will be closed for survey work.  The two right lanes will remain open.

BIRMINGHAM– As construction continues in downtown Birmingham for Interstate Improvements, the Alabama Department of Transportation says drivers should expect delays.

Weather permitting, the following closures will take place as follows:

• Double lane closures on I-59 northbound beginning at the Carraway off ramp (Exit 126A) on Monday, April 12^th  at 7 p.m. until 12 a.m.  The closure is necessary to perform spall repairs.
